The SummerFaire Committee has decided it is time for a new poster (yes!) and is wondering if there is anyone in our congregation who might be interested in designing one. The deadline for coming forward is soon - March 7th - not for producing the poster, but for expressing interest. If there is noone, we will approach the GISS Art students and offer a small honorarium. Please talk to Debra, 537-4701, for more details. Let the creative juices flow!

Next Sunday, March 7th at 11:30 am after the service, The KAIROS component of our Social Justice Committee is staging an appeal to CIDA, (Canadian International Development Agency) to restore the funding to KAIROS. The funding was cut in November 2009.

The Appeal will take the form of a large banner being displayed surrounded by as many people as possible from our congregation, other Churches and the supportive general community. The Driftwood will take the photo and publish with an accompanying article the following week.

This will be forwarded to CIDA and the Federal Government.

We are asking for your support of this appeal. Weather permitting it will be outside our Church and take 10 to 15 minutes to arrange.

Thank You,

The KAIROS Committee

MINUTE FOR MISSION

Called to Live Beyond Security

In June 2009 about 150 people gathered in Toronto at the North American Stewardship Conference (NASC) to listen, learn, and discuss ways to move their lives and their churches’ lives beyond security. To live beyond security we have to recognize the many illusions we have about guaranteeing safety.

Weapons, walls, and other ways to shut out people do not bring safety. Participants learned that hope and love are the true remedies for fear, hate, loneliness, dis-ease, anger, blame, and guilt. God inspires us to move beyond security to live among those we are called to serve.

The NASC was augmented by honest and hopeful words, joyful singing, prayer, and laughter. Those gathered were urged to always remember that “we are
not alone.”*

To keep the ideas alive after the conference, learning circles were created so participants could connect by meetings or conference calls and share with their churches and communities what they had learned and experienced.

The NASC and the learning circles are supported in part through The United Church of Canada’s Mission and Service Fund. Your support of the Mission and Service Fund provided people from churches across North America with a place to learn and teach one another as the body of Christ.
